MAHESHWARI & CO. had the privilege of assisting a US-based luxury lifestyle and collectible design company on its entry into India. The company designs, develops and distributes bespoke decorative and lighting products for collectors and discerning consumers, drawing on Indian local and regional handicraft traditions. Its collections combine contemporary collectible art objects and luxury interior pieces with premium materials, including hand-processed leather, and artisanal craftsmanship. The company supplies the high-end residential, hospitality and interior design markets, with activities that extend to international sourcing, import and export, distribution and other cross-border commercial arrangements connected to its product lines.

The Firm advised the client on a cross-border transaction forming part of its strategic expansion into India, providing legal and regulatory support across the India entry strategy. This covered the incorporation of its Indian subsidiary and the establishment of the legal framework required to commence operations in the Indian market.

The engagement involved advising on the appropriate entry structure and applicable foreign investment conditions, structuring and finalising the transaction documentation with all stakeholders, and addressing governance and operational matters relevant to the subsidiary’s set-up. The Firm continues to work with the client and its stakeholders to facilitate implementation of the transaction.
